For this three day sewing school you can make a garment of your choice – a skirt, shirt, dress or even a jacket or a pair of jeans. Bring along your pattern and fabric and learn all the skills you need. Each day we will start with tuition and discussion on techniques, you will see examples of simple and couture finishes which you can use in your garment construction. The rest of the day will be spent working on your garment under expert guidance.

On this workshop you will learn to make coiled fabric pots by machine. It will also include making them with jute and the technique of wrapping the rope. All materials are included in the cost of the workshop and you will be able to take these sturdy and useful bowls home!

Learn to bead and be able to embellish like a pro. This is a great way to customise your own clothes and stand out from the crowd. Bring along a piece of clothing to embellish, maybe something you have made on one of our other workshops and I will also cover working on different fabrics. After you have booked onto the workshop please call to speak to Debs to discuss what you would like to bring.

Create a new texture from your work with this wonderful historical technique which you can bring into your contemporary work. You will create a 17" panel utilising both these techniques and will be able to then turn it into a cushion or quilt panel. This technique works wonderfully as quilt edges and also on hems and detail on coats and dresses.

Learn all you need to know to achieve a professional finish to your tailored garments with some easy techniques. If you have ever wondered how to shape a striped fabric around a lapel, make bound buttonholes and jetted pocket then this is the workshop for you. You will also learn balanced darts and pattern matching for checks, stripes and patterns. Learn how to do it and take home samples.

On this 2nd part of our Overlocking Workshops you will learn to use your Overlocker to create decorative stitches. Using different threads and even fishing line, you will create samples as well as making a bag with a zip - all with your overlocker. If you would like to use one of our overlockers then you are very welcome.

Thermofax printing is very similar to screenpring but is easier to manage and you can create very fine detailed images onto fabric, paper and if you want your walls! You can use any medium in the same way as you can with a screenprint. The machine we use is based on the old 1950’s technology of photocopying. As there are no chemicals involved in the process it is a very safe and simple way to create amazing images. On this two day workshop you will learn to make the screens and then print 2m of fabric for either dressmaking, home furnishing or a textile art project. A really fun way to begin quilting without the measuring!! Using a treasure trove of traditional or contemporary fabrics you will create a beautiful cushion and be able to then continue with this technique. Perfect for yourself or for presents. Making knickers is a fun and practical workshop! You can choose to make for yourself or have a go at making boxer shorts. Everything you need to make two pairs are provided in this workshop including fabric, pattern and notions. We teach you all the techniques required and you could go home wearing them! An array of lovely fabrics to choose from you will also learn french seams and working with elastic.

Turn the barn into your studio and come and play. I truly believe that the art of experimenting is the best way of creating. You will be able to work with procion dyes, batik, silk painting and thermofax printing. You can concentrate on developing your mark making or work on a specific project. This workshop is designed for those of you who have some knowledge of textiles but are looking to develop your work and build your confidence to experiment. Learn how to insert a jeans zip and work with proper denim to create a fantastic pair of jeans. Black or blue denim available. If you are happier in a pair of tailored trousers come along and learn all the techniques and choose from gorgeous fabrics.

A fantastic opportunity to make chunky, luxurious rugs using a traditional Peg Loom. You will be able to complete a series of samples during the day and have the skills to make more at home. We will use a combination of recycled fabric and Goodwood organic sheep fleece to build up fabulous textural surface to your own tastes and colour preferences. If you love the technique you will be able to buy your loom to take home with you at a cost of £36

Your sewing machine will have arrived with basic machine feet but do you know what they all do? On this workshop you will learn to identify the feet you have as well as see what else is available. With approximately 25 different feet to try you will learn how to cord, bead, pipe, try different feet for stitching straight lines, hemming and taming difficult fabrics as well as neatening edges and creating decorative stitches. Take home lots of samples and notes and never have trouble choosing the correct foot for your project again.

Couture" means dressmaking or sewing and is always associated with high quality. Couture clothes hang beautifully and last for years, they may take longer to make but it is always worth taking the time, especially if you have beautiful fabric. Bring along your pattern and fabric and learn all the skills you needed to create a perfectly fitted and finished couture garment. You will first make a toile which will be altered to fit your figure, next learn about interlining, correct interfacings, zips, waistbands, fastenings and all the hand stiches needed for a couture finish to your garment. Each day we will start with tuition and discussion on techniques, you will see examples of simple and couture finishes which you can use in your garment construction. The rest of the day will be spent working on your garment under expert guidance.

All materials and thread are included in the cost of the workshop. Free hand machine embroidery allows your imagination to run wild whether figurative or abstract. You will learn all the tricks of the trade including layering with thread and using dissolvable fabric. We will also create a quilted sample. Discover a real freedom in stitch and create at least 4 beautiful samplers in the process. Don’t worry about the drawing I will show you lots of ways to create wonderful images without being Da Vinci!

The cost of the workshop includes all silks and paints. Learn the beautiful art of silk painting. You will learn how to blend and divide colour and how to work with the various tools available. We will explore techniques with salt and shaving foam! By the end of the day you will feel confident in using this technique at home.

Achieving a perfect finish for your garments often comes from the extra details used in construction. On this workshop you will learn how to choose the correct fabric to interline for a couture finish, hand stitches and fastenings as well as how to make continuous bias binding from a small piece of fabric then finish seams and hems with a Hong Kong binding. Lots of techniques to learn, with samples and notes to take home.

Learn this beautiful craft of painting with wax and then dying the cloth. We will use both traditional and modern techniques. Working with beautiful natural fabrics you will be able to experiment to achieve fantastic results.

All materials and notions are included in the cost of the workshop. This is a day to make samples of techniques that will improve the finish of your garments. Although we love the overlocker it is good to know what other seam and hem finishes can be done. French seams, welt seams, narrow hems and bound hems will all be covered as well as many more.

All materials and notions are included in the cost of the workshop Investigate the art of appliqué by creating five samples, machine, hand, padded, reverse and 3D appliqué. You can then use these skills in cushion making and quilting to decorating clothing and bags. We will use a variety of fabrics and thread. Click on 'learn more' to see more images

All materials and dyes are included in the cost of the workshop. This is a true workshop of experimentation. Learn to work with procion dyes, paints and rusty nails! We will be block printing, stencilling, painting and blending. You will spend the two days working with colour on natural fabrics including cotton, silk and wool. By the end of the workshop you will go away with a sample book and the confidence to use these techniques again. All techniques are safe to use at home. You will need to be ok wearing rubber gloves and a cotton face mask for some of the work.

All thread and fabric is included in the cost of the workshop. Take your overlocker out of the box and bring it along to our Overlocking day! If you don't have one then then you can use one of ours. Learn how to thread your machine and how to set it up for finishing seams, constructing garments, decorative stitches and the perfect rolled hem. You will leave with samples and notes to give you confidence to use your overlocker for all your creative projects and the professional finish. Please when booking let us know what make your overlocker is or that you would like to use one of ours.

Create your perfect skirt; choose to make it straight or A line, short or long. You will learn everything you need to know to make it fit perfectly! A choice of wonderful linens and wools available. You will also use the overlocker to give your skirt that professional finish and learn to put in the concealed zip. You can then go on and use your pattern to make many more. This is one of the all time favourite workshops!

All materials are included in the cost of the workshop Here's where science meets the arts, left and right sides of the brain working in harmony. This is a hands on course revealing the simple science behind colour . You'll prepare your own colour wheel and so understand the concept of Hue, Value & Intensity enabling you to use these parameters to wet colour match using a range of pigments. We will also look at the effect of lighting, pigment characteristics and finally what surface you will be applying it to. This course is a perfect preparation for our colouring fabric workshop

Overcome your fear of zippers in this practical skills workshop! You’ll learn to insert a concealed zip (look like a pro when you make dresses or cushion covers!). A fly zip with a placket for jeans & trousers and an exposed teeth zip – the fashionable fastening for dresses and skirts. You will receive lots of tips on choosing the correct zip for your project and take home samples and notes to help with your next project. Don’t let zips hold you back!

Embroidery is a skill that transfers into so many textile disciplines. You can embroider onto clothing or table linen; you can use it in quilting and pictures. On this workshop you will create a set of samples whilst learning a host of stitches. You will learn how to transfer your design onto the fabric and experiment with different threads.

We will explore a multitude of techniques and materials including collage, paint, fabric and stitch. This workshop is designed to take away the fear of the blank page! On this workshop you will firstly learn how to choose the correct size pattern, then adjust the bust point so that darts and seams fit your curves. Go on to adjust three different styles of bodice - one with no dart, a side dart and princess seams. Once you have learnt the technique you can put it into practice. Each day we will start with tuition and discussion on techniques, you will see examples of simple and couture finishes which you can use in your garment construction. The rest of the day will be spent working on your garment under expert guidance.

On this 2nd part of our Overlocking Workshops you will learn to use your Overlocker to create decorative stitches. Using different threads and even fishing line, you will create samples as well as making a bag with a zip - all with your overlocker. If you would like to use one of our overlockers then you are very welcome.

Claire ran this workshop last Christmas and all the women reported back that they were much loved! Perfect timing this time for a present for Father's Day You will work with beautiful fabrics (even Dr Zeuss!) and work from a pattern by Claire ending up with a professional finish. On this four day workshop you will learn to Japanese art of shibori creating your own amazing fabric and then you will turn it into a beautiful quilt. Tied quilting is probably the simplest of quilting but produces a beautiful finish on both sides. You will create a quilt measuring 45 x 60" perfect for a picnic blanket, a single bed or cuddling up on the sofa. All the fabric, dyes and notions are included in the cost of this workshop. This workshop is designed for those of you who have some knowledge of using a sewing machine.

Thermofax printing is very similar to screenpring but is easier to manage and you can create very fine detailed images onto fabric, paper and if you want your walls! You can use any medium in the same way as you can with a screenprint. The machine we use is based on the old 1950’s technology of photocopying. As there are no chemicals involved in the process it is a very safe and simple way to create amazing images. On this two day workshop you will learn to make the screens and then print 2m of fabric for either dressmaking, home furnishing or a textile art project. You will then hand print a design of your choice onto 1 metre of fabric .
