    Shibori is the Japanese art of resist dying using binding, folding, stitching and twisting to create beautiful fabrics. Kanoko shibori is what we would term as tie-dye but the Japanese developed many many more techniques to create incredibly beautiful patterns. On this course you will learn many of the techniques and how to prepare the dyes. All the dyes we prepare will be safe to use at home. By the end of the day you will have a stash of samples and notes on how to continue to expand this technique.

    This two day workshop will cover the principles of piecing fabric from traditional quilting blocks to contemporary piecing including curves and layers. We will work with the rotary cutter and cutting boards and learn about glue basting for added accuracy! We will also cover the design and planning of a piece whether for a contemporary wall piece or more traditional work.

    A fantastic opportunity to learn this ancient skill of hand weaving on a traditional Peg loom. It is wonderful for recycling old clothes to make chunky, luxurious rugs or you can work on a finer loom and create more delicate work using wools. You will be able to complete a series of samples during the day and have the skills to make more at home. We will use a combination of recycled fabric and Goodwood organic sheep fleece to build up fabulous textural surface to your own tastes and colour preferences.     This is a beautiful technique to create exquisite fabric panels, which can be used in quilting, window dressing or dressmaking. You will learn the skill of Pojagi seams, which is a Korean technique to create a flat, reversible seam, and traditionally was used to create wrapping cloths (Bojagi). It allows you to work from large blocks to very small. The technique can be done by both hand and machine and we will cover both on the workshop.

    All materials are included in the cost of the workshop. Here is an opportunity to explore, the creative art of felt making. You will learn the techniques of pre-felting and layering with Merino wool tops and other fibers including organic Goodwood Fleece. We will make nuno felt and 3D felt samples too. You will create a series of beautiful samples ready to continue the exploration of this ancient and tactile craft. Soap is used in the making of felt - if you have an allergy please bring gloves or I have a supply of latex gloves at the studio
