Creating a classic lined winter coat which will last a life time is a major project. The course will run over three days, 1 week apart and there will be an initial consultation to discuss patterns. The first week you will make a calico toile and carry out fittings. You will need to choose your fabric , we are happy to give you advice if required. The reason for the fabric not being included in the cost of the workshop, as we would normally do, is that we think to make this commitment you will want to be very specific about the fabric you choose. You may want cashmere or wool or even fur! but it needs to be your choice. We will have a selection of fabric for you to choose at varying price levels or alternatively you are welcome to bring your own. Shibori is the Japanese art of resist dying using binding, folding, stitching and twisting to create beautiful fabrics. Kanoko shibori is what we would term as tie-dye but the Japanese developed many many more techniques to create incredibly beautiful patterns. Thermofax printing is very similar to screenpring but is easier to manage and you can create very fine detailed images onto fabric, paper and if you want your walls! You can use any medium in the same way as you can with a screenprint. The machine we use is based on the old 1950’s technology of photocopying. As there are no chemicals involved in the process it is a very safe and simple way to create amazing images. Doggie Coat

All the notions needed to make this stunning designer doggie coat are provided in this workshop including a pattern. You will need to bring an appropriate size towel for your dog! in this 1 day workshop you will make a practical and stylish towelling robe for your dog. The pattern will suit all sizes of dogs from a tiny Chihuahua to a large Labrador. The robes outer fabric and inner lining are towelling to help your dog dry out after they've been in the rain, dipped in for a swim or need a bath after a soak in the muddiest puddle they could find. The robe has a tie belt and velcro fastening at the neck. We'll provide the pattern, notions and trims all you need to do is bring along a towel to two to make the robe. Hand and Lock are expert practitioners of this embroidery technique popular on international catwalks and seen in shows by designers such as Elie Saab and Oscar De La Renta. Tambour beading also known as Lunéville or Crochet de Lunéville is a French Haute Couture technique where beads or sequins can be attached to a fabric. The embroidery is done with a special hook working through a fabric stretched tight as a drum. Over the two days, you will learn how to create a design, set up a full size frame and find out how to work the hook through the fabric without catching and then go on to learn technique. You will learn the skill of Bojagi seams, which is a Korean technique to create a flat, reversible seam, and traditionally was used to create wrapping cloths called Bojagi. Shibori is the Japanese art of resist dying using binding, folding, stitching and twisting to create beautiful fabrics. Kanoko shibori is similar to tie-dye but the Japanese have developed many more techniques to create incredibly beautiful patterns. Traditionally the dye used with this technique is Indio and we will be working with an organic Indigo dye vat to achieve the beautiful hues. Kanoko shibori is what we would term as tie-dye but the Japanese developed many many more techniques to create incredibly beautiful patterns. We will be block printing, painting and blending. You will spend the two days working with colour on natural fabrics including cotton, silk and wool. Shibori is the Japanese art of resist dying using binding, folding, stitching and twisting to create beautiful fabrics. Kanoko shibori is what we would term as tie-dye but the Japanese developed many many more techniques to create incredibly beautiful patterns. On this course you will learn many of the techniques and how to prepare the dyes. All the dyes we prepare will be safe to use at home.
